Macon, Georgia, is often symbolized by the color pink, but a closer look reveals a deep red hue shaped by historic redlining and ongoing racial and economic disparities. Unionville, a historically Black neighborhood, continues to experience the long-term effects of these systemic barriers, including poverty, housing instability, health disparities, and limited access to the arts. While many of Macon’s cultural events are concentrated downtown, residents of Unionville are often excluded due to economic and geographic barriers.

F.U.B.U. Fest is a direct response to these disparities. By bringing high-quality arts programming into Unionville, the festival fosters local pride, challenges dominant narratives of poverty and violence, and demonstrates the vibrancy of Black creativity in Macon. As a former resident of Unionville, I believe this neighborhood deserves celebration, investment, and recognition—not just for its challenges, but for its resilience, culture, and artistry. F.U.B.U. Fest is more than an event; it is a movement to reclaim space, build community, and ensure that Unionville is seen, heard, and valued.
